Betacarotene caution!

  • Pregnant women should not supplement > 800 mcg of
    preformed vitamin A daily except on advice of
    doctor/ante-natal clinic.
  • If you are on the pill your for vitamin A is decreased.
  • Vitamin A can be adversely affected by light, oxygen
    and heat.
  • Betacarotene can cause skin to yellow in very high
    doses, but this disappears on removal of betacarotene
    from diet.
  • A deficiency of vitamin A can lead to loss of vitamin C.
  • A broad spectrum of antibiotics should not be taken
    with high doses of vitamin A.
