Coenzyme Q10,
the Immune system and Cancer
As we age our ability to ward off infection and to resist the
onslaught of diseases such as cancer as well as the degenerative
conditions like arthritis decreases and this is directly related
to an inefficient immune system. The immune system is the body's
great defence system and recent studies indicate that many
micronutrient in our diets contribute to the effectiveness of
the immune system. These include betacarotene, vitamin C,
vitamin E, selenium, zinc, and CoQ10.
It is quite likely that a large part of the function of CoQ10 in
the immune system relates to its property as an antioxidant.
Cancer is believed to be the result of a breakdown in the
antioxidant defence of tissues and organs with the subsequent
reduction in the efficiency of the immune system. Proof that
CoQ10 supplementation can help in some aspects of breast cancer
came from studies in Denmark.
