Cautions
- Extra calcium may be required to offset the leaching
that occurs with the mineral with high intakes of
vitamin C.
- Because of the acidic nature of vitamin C it is
advisable to rinse teeth after taking with liquid
orally.
- If you are taking more than 2 grams of vitamin C daily
you should take more folic acid and B12 (members of
the B complex vitamins), at least the recommended
daily amount.
- People with a partial deficiency of one of the enzymes
eg. 6-GPD should not take large amounts of vitamin C.
- Cancer patients should not use vitamin C if undergoing
radiation treatment or chemotherapy.
- If you are taking greater than 750mg per day, then
take a magnesium supplement.
- It is possible that large amounts of vitamin C
might reverse the anticoagulant of the blood thinner
warfarin (Coumadin).
- Inform your doctor if you are taking large
amounts of vitamin C as it can change the results of
lab tests for sugar in the blood and urine and give
false negative results in tests for blood in stool
specimens.
