Nicholas Sanderson

Nicholas Sanderson was born in 1967 in South London. After a rather dissolute foundation year at the Croydon College of Art he managed, luckily, to get a place at the Glasgow School of Art where he worked very hard until his graduation in 1990.

Because he was very competitive and wanted to get a good degree he made very big, architectonic sculptures in the style known loosely as "object-based" as this was, then, the height of fashion

After graduating, however, he decided to return to making small figurative pieces as they allowed for greater narrative scope and could be made with the minimum of resources.

From 1994-95 he went to Poland to study figurative sculpture at the Warsaw Academy of Art. He now lives and works in South London, dividing his time between his studio in Penge and his job as a nursing assistant at the Bethlehem Royal Psychiatric Hospital..
