Design, build, decorate and play your own musical instruments using
scrap materials. From Tube Drums and Talking Drums, Whistles and
Flutes to a hand held five string Japanese Koto, an experienced tutor
will introduce you to the instruments and their origins and guide you
through the simple construction techniques using basic tools.
Instruments can be decorated using beads, ribbons, paints and all sorts
of recycled materials, followed by a creative music session.
Ashleigh Marsh devised and leads the programme of workshops for
Openwide. Ashleigh is an engineer and live improvising muscian who
has taught music and instrument making (including sound sculptures)
at the Lewisham Academy of Music for the last nine years. She regularly
leads workshops in schools and community events.
