Vitamin Safety
On the basis of an analysis of both original papers and recent
general reviews, the following general conclusions can be drawn:
- There is no satisfactory internationally accepted
standard for advised intake of vitamins.
- There is a considerable margin of safety with most of
the vitamins, for there are very few side-effects
attributable to the vitamins at dose levels even
substantially above the Recommended daily amount
(RDA).
- The safety margin is particularly true of water
soluble vitamins (except B6). If taken orally,
excesses which cannot be used are either not absorbed
or are largely and promptly excreted in the urine.
